The DUOroboros was formed in 2016 on the occasion of the collaboration of the two musicians with the Theater company Lombardi-Tiezzi at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan. With the same company the duo has performed since then on several Italian stages.
The chamber music activity begins within the initiatives of “Pistoia, Italian capital of Culture 2017”. Later, the duo performed at the Fondazione Luigi Tronci (Pistoia), at the Auditorium di Santo Stefano al Ponte Vecchio (Florence) and at the Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte di Montepulciano, among others.
In 2017 the two musicians obtained the artistic residence “contemporary rooms” of the Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte di Montepulciano, dedicated to the contemporary repertoire, also performing at the Teatro dell’opera in Florence and at the Italian Cultural Institute in Brussels.
The specificity of the duo lies in the special combination between cello and percussion, whose encounter represents the interaction of two fundamental elements of music: rhythm and melody. The percussion is involved both in its more rhythmic resources and in harmonic and melodic function, with pitched and unpitched instruments.
But the veru unique resource of the duo is the use of the cellist mezzo-soprano voice that sings and plays simultaneously in some pieces. This makes it possible to develop a three-part dialogue between the melody of song, the bass of the cello and the percussion, which then plays the roles between harmony and counterpoint.
Besides dedicating himself to the interpretation of contemporary works originally written for the two instruments, the duo proposes to explore the different possibilities that the unusual formation offers, through the reelaboration and execution of pieces from the classical and popular repertoire
