Omar Cecchi Percussionist

Born in Pistoia, Italy, at a young age he begins to appreciate music as a form and element of social life.
With years passing by, music becomes for him daily research, a life-long journey od studying and sharing.

In 2007 he is admitted at the course of Percussion Instruments at the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini (Florence, Italy), where he graduates with honors in 2013.
During his years of Conservatory he begins studying some extra-European music. He followes courses in Ghana percussion instruments with Ruben Agbeli and Brazilian percussion with Gilson Silveira.
He spends the academic year 2012-2013 at the Haute École de Musique de Genève, where he begins studying Indian rhythmic, tablas and drumset with Claude Gastaldin.
Masterclasses he attended include those hold by Ney Rosauro, Peter Sadlo, David Friedman, Dave Samuels, Andrea Santarsiere, Claudio Romano, Philippe Hurel, Pandit Anindo Chatterjee, Vidwan Shri Bangalore Amrit, Vidwan Shri Annor AnantaKrishna, Jean-Jacques Lemêtre, Benny Greb, Michael Lauren.

From 2007 to 2011 he studies mathematics at the University of Florence.

In 2016-2017 he studies the Gary Chaffee drumset method with Pier Paolo Ferroni.
From 2016 to 2019 he studies drumset with Alfredo Golino.
He currently pursues the study of Indian music with Claude Gastaldin (France) and studies the traditional art of Konnakkol at the World Konnakkol Academy (India).

Since 2014 he works as a music consultant, arranger and percussionist with the Lombard-Tiezzi Theatre Company.
He collaborates with several lyric and symphonic orchestras and chamber groups as percussionist and timpanist.

His study and concert activities are closely related with his teaching method. Since 2013 he is percussion teacher in colleges and high schools with focus on musical education.

He currently teaches percussion, drumset and Konnakkol in Pistoia and in Viareggio at the Accademia Musicale della Versilia.
